We're reserving these scissors to try at age 6 since they were too large for our younger kids and there's still a risk of cuts. Till then, we'll stick with the smaller, safer scissors from the Dough Designer Kit by Lakeshore.

We call these our safe scissors because you can teach the young ones to cut without being concerned about them cutting things they shouldn't be cutting. They are a great way to teach them how to hold scissors properly and cut play dough.

These scissors are a wonderful tool to help kids strengthen their hands and help them develop scissor skills! Using scissors with dough helps children remember to hold the item that they are cutting rather than use only one hand, as they often do when cutting paper. Kids love to cut up little pieces of dough and pretend to make food with the scissors. I have only had mine about a month, but other teachers have told me that they have used the same dough scissors in the classroom for a good ten years and they have still held up! I think it was worth the investment, and they came quite quickly. I'm also glad that I don't have to wash off the scissors each time they are used to avoid corrosion on the blade- because there ISN'T a blade! The entire scissor is plastic only.
