I bought 2!

January 16, 2023 - By Laurenfrom California

I have a larger class and needed to buy 2 of these to have enough for a group of 6 students; so that would be my only critique but that isn't related to the product itself. The materials are sturdy, age-appropriate, and I love the color-coding for easy organization. I did choose to laminate the cards but that is a personal preference. There are two levels of challenge 1) one-to-one letter correspondence and 2) using phonemic awareness to identify the missing letter and phoneme. Both levels are supported with pictures and provide letter boundaries to reduce student frustration. I wish the materials included encourage for groups of 4-6 students but overall, great product!

Yes, I would recommend this product.

Good phonics practice

April 25, 2019 - By coffee4mefrom Reedley California

I am a reading intervention specialist working with 3rd to 5th graders. I do have a couple of groups that are at this level. I had the children do this center today. Once they would finish a card, I covered the words a they had to build the words just looking at the pictures and locating the letters with the correct sound. They would then pass the card to the next student. They enjoyed the activity and decided they would give it 5 stars. I gave 4 stars because, as noted by another reviewer, the set should include several in each color so that it can be used multiple times.

Yes, I would recommend this product.

Fun center, but could be better!

November 23, 2017 - By TeachWithHeart22from Indiana

My first graders love this center, but I also agree with some of the other comments. This center should have included more work mats with gradually increasing skills, especially when it's advertised for 1st grade. I let my students use the tiles to create their own words when finished, but the extra mats could make this center last the whole year. I love your products, and know my students are building a strong reading foundation with your centers. I just expected it to last longer than a week for the price.

Yes, I would recommend this product.

Good start, but not enough for the money

December 03, 2015 - By Viviennefrom Phoenix, AZ

My students loved this! For the first week. Now that they have all used it a time or two, they are bored with it. For the money, I would like to see more boards to go with each colored set. I would like to have at least 4 boards for each color so I can rotate them each week during the month. I don't feel that I got my money's worth.

There is just one card per color so four cards total. It can be used just once that way. They missed the mark. There should have been several cards for each color to make it truly a center that could be reused over and over again. They could have leveled it by color getting more difficult so children can build upon one skill and then go to another. I was very disappointed with this product. It could have been so much better. It is more for preschool-kindergarten level.

Great for independent and small group work!

February 04, 2012 - By caitlinofrom Arizona

I just bought this center for my kindergarteners and they used it for the first time last week. The kids loved having their own color tiles and mat to use and the picture directions are fantastic for early learners to do on their own. I'd highly recommend this product to anyone teaching kindergarten.
