Very easy way to help solidify basic multiplication and division for 2nd grade into 3rd.

I am new to teaching so please correct me if I'm wrong. I love the whole concept, but the representation is a bit off for a Part-Whole context. For example 6x4 is really adding 4+4+4+4+4+4 (6 parts of 4 each) so there should be 6 parts underneath the whole (?) with the digit 4 in each part so that the student associates multiplication with repeated addition. I feel like these work better as flashcards when students need to practice recalling their facts and not really a great Part-Whole Representation of the facts.
