These specimen are the perfect way to encourage curiosity about and exploration of our natural world and the animals in it. They are also a terrific way to allow students who are afraid of spiders and/or scorpions to examine them. In addition, by keeping some books about various spider and scorpion types near the specimen, I have found I can encourage students to follow their natural curiosity and use their research skills to learn more about them.
