Description
Support children’s social-emotional growth and mindfulness skills with a developmentally appropriate, hands-on calming kit inspired by the wonderful, kid-friendly book How to Train Your Amygdala! Created in collaboration with the book’s author, Anna Housley Juster, PhD, LICSW, a child and adolescent mental health clinician and early childhood education consultant, the kit focuses on a child’s amygdala as it is portrayed in the book—to help children understand their bodies, practice impulse control and boost self-regulation. From a soft, textured sensory friend to a hands-on emotion slider, a super-engaging sensory viewer and a fun-to-press fidget popper—the kit includes a variety of materials all designed to make complex concepts related to brain function super-accessible for kids, helping them learn about breathing techniques, relax through pretend play, put their feelings into words and so much more. We’ve even included a hardcover copy of the book…an 11" x 17" poster featuring at-a-glance tips to help children train their brain’s amygdala over time through repetition…and an activity card packed with ideas for using the materials. Colors and components may vary.

I'm always on the lookout for resources that support social-emotional learning (SEL) and helping PreK students develop crucial self-regulation skills. The 'How to Train Your Amygdala Calming Kit,' has been a hit with our preschool teachers. Students have loved learning about the brain, why they have an amygdala and what it does. They love using the word amygdala! In one class the students drew their own amygdalas and have them posted in the classroom. It has been a great way to connect with families and talk about techniques for calming down and 'checking in' with feelings. My advice for anyone using this kit/book is to take the time to read though everything and be really intentional about how you incorporate this in your lessons/classroom. Help teach the skills and techniques to the students and you will be amazed with how young children connect to the kit and book.

Yes, I would recommend this product.
